Culturally, I think we are becoming more and more vain, self focused and narcissistic. This is fed by and thanks to, sites like Facebook and Myspace, LinkedIn etc. We now have an attainable and accessible online PR system, where we show case our lives – or parts of our lives we want public. Hundreds of photos later, insecurities do come on the playing field and you begin to analyse these images of yourself, criticise it/you and others. Let’s just put the psychologically implications of this aside for the moment- and focus on the solution to dealing with this cultural change and the accessibility of your face… In other words: Photo shop it baby.

I’ve been working on a few photo shoots lately and when people see the pics they are always saying wow how hot is that model or I wish I could look that good or how flawless are they. The reality is – YOU CAN – a few clicks on photoshop, never go astray. I think everyone deserves to have some amazing pics of themselves it makes you feel fabulous. Why not have some fun and feed that vanity streak inside you?

Here are some pic iv been working on…. Hope you like!

I hate it when a magazine has a budget section suggestion page of “cheap” buys when in actual fact they aren’t that cheap. If I have bothered to look at this section, it means that I am on a tight tight budget.

So here is a real cheap list of tips and buys when you actually want a little luxury…we are in a GFC after all.

1. The Egg Facial

I love facials. Love them. For your very own home facial, you need 2 eggs. Separate the yolk from the white; discard yolk, keep the whites and beat, preferably with an electric egg mixer. Beat egg whites until they are completely foamed. Apply foam to face, and let dry. Leave egg whites on face for about 10-15 mins; if you have naturally dry skin, stick to the 10 mins. Wash and enjoy.

2. Chemist Mascara

Now, I am in no shape or form a fan of shopping for make-up at my local chemist. But I do have to admit, they stock well and cheap. New mascara never goes astray; so why not revamp you mascara collection with a newbie from your local chemist; open all hours, and under 20 bucks. I am a huge fan of (any) Rimmel mascara.

3. DIY eye brow shaping

Ahh it feels great when I have my eyebrows professionally done (well only because they look great, the waxing is quite vicious). However, if need be, you can do your own pruning by following some simple guidelines and rules. Such as, always pluck hair only from the under side of your brows. Try and angle the arch so that it begins from the line point where you brow lines up with the right of your pupil. The brow should finish at the line angle from the base of your nose to the end of your eye up to your brow.

Bigger bushier eyebrows are “in” at the moment, so don’t over pluck, less will be more (…literally). I was chatting to a plastic surgeon nurse a couple of weeks ago, and asked her about what the some of the common surgical treatments women get; one of the most common is – eyebrow tattooing; her patients have needed to have their eyebrows tattooed on because they had over-plucked and the hair never grew back. You’ve been warned.

Lastly, don’t be afraid to get out a little pair of scissors and trim here and there.

4. Meditate

If you’re stressed out, you probably look run down and not your best. I am a huge fan of yoga and seriously think the meditation part does wonders to not only my well being, but my well-looking. Take 30 mins out of your day, find a quite place, put on some relaxation music, focus on your breathing (deep breathing, in through your nose, out through your mouth ), quieten your mind, close your eyes and just chill out for a bit.

5. Bronzer and Lipstick are Blush too

I always see women doing this in the powder rooms! So you probably already do this too. But incase you don’t - instead of buying new products, use your current products in a different way. Lightly powder your blush brush with bronzer and apply to cheeks for a deep blush look. Or go pink and dab some pink lipstick to your cheeks and smooth over to make some rouge.

6. Cheap Foundation

Hhahaa, ONLY KIDDING. Cheap foundation will never be good and probably contains lead. Just don’t.

You don’t have to spend heaps, but do have a customer service person make sure you have the right colour. And if you are going for a new product, take the sample home and try it first. If you’re going to pay good money, then make sure you’re happy with the product.

It’s often discussed, but more often wondered about – what is the ultimate “wardrobe essentials” list?

This is our list. We have kept to the basics, because the basics are what you should base your outfit on, and you can build from there. These are the items that will be worth getting high quality, because they will be what you get the most wear out of.

1. Le Classique little black dress: It is so important to have one in your wardrobe, for all the times where you need that touch of glamour but haven’t the time or cash to go grab a new outfit. The more timeless the piece is, the better. Think: Audrey Hepburn, beautiful tailoring, modesty, black, and strong lines.

2. Boots that are made for walking: Having a good pair of boots really can make a huge difference to your on-going winter wardrobe. A classic style like ankle boots, will last through any trend and cool winter mornings. Remember: bright colours, zips and studs – all date.

3. Leather Jacket: for the inner biker chick that you are.

4. Favourite Jeans: whatever shape you like on you; dark colors will always be in fashion.

5. Black leggings: They will always be handy with any trend.

6. Tailored Jacket: To dress up that casual outfit. Make sure it fits and makes you feel suave.

7. Your signature scent: Coco Chanel once said those immortal words “A woman who doesn’t wear perfume, has no future”. H A ha! Oh Coco, how true you are… well not to put pressure on anyone, especially since some of us have serious allergies. Nevertheless, this is an essential for your senses.

Sitting here on a Saturday night enjoying my delicious meal-for-one that I just concocted up and a lovely glass of french wine, I sat pondering, as I had just been trawling over my music collection and uncovered a mix tape compiled by my ex.

The purpose of the mix tape was to spare me from his droning techno music that constantly blared from his car stereo whenever we drove. Now, point to be taken, I’m a pretty mixed-bag-muso gal, as in – I too do enjoy techno occasionally. However, he lived in the South and it was one hell of a drive to the East. Too long if it’s 10AM on a Saturday morning trying to nurse a busy week and a big Friday night, to listen to techno-inspired-hymns.

Accordingly, and I suppose romantically, he (the ex) made me my own “non-techno” < (his words) CD.

Couple of problems: at this stage of the relationship, it was on the out, so I never actually listened to it; and now, having been a good 3 months out of it, my curiosity has forced me to shove it in my CD player and it has also forced me to be so irritated that I just switched it off as I was writing this…

It is indeed, techno encompassing even though the title is “non-techno”, and secondly, made me realise how much we obviously weren’t meant for each other.

But I knew that.

My point being is rather, that it saddens me to think that someone can have genuinely good intentions in attempting to make you happy and meet all of your requirements and complexities. But when they miserably fail…you just feel quite sad that you didn’t go so well together.

Whilst I can’t force myself to change and enjoy techno music 24/7 I do wonder about when people do change – really change – for the “peace” of the relationship. And when is it worth it?

Because even when I thought, in the past, that I did have the right person and changed many-a-thing for the good of the relationship…even after doing that… today, I am still sitting here (enjoyably however) with my meal-for-one.
